Future group's format ‘Central’ has been signed as an anchor tenant in Gumberg's The North Country mall at Mohali, Chandigarh replacing Shoppers Stop. Central has leased approximately 59,000 sq.ft. across two levels in the mall. Future Group is also planning to launch its fashion brands such as Planet Sports, Ethnicity, AND, Global Desi, Converse, ALL, Skechers, Clarks, and Celio in the development.
Commenting on the announcement, B Anantharaman, MD and CEO said: ‘We are pleased to have the largest department store from the Future Group participating in our mall."
Developed by Gumberg, the US mall developer, the project is being claimed as India’s first super regional shopping centre and Punjab's biggest mall by the company officials. Spread over 21.6 acres in Chandigarh, The North Country mall covers space of over 1 million sq.ft. It will house 14 anchors including a 9-screen multiplex by PVR; a 36,000 sq.ft. food court and fine dining outlets; 100,000 sq.ft. hypermarket by Reliance and over 250 shops housing premium brands.
Central has 22 stores spread across 12 cities. It houses over 1,000 fashion brands with more than 500 categories.
Construction of The North Country mall started in November 2010 and is nearing completion now. With over 85 percent of the mall already pre-leased, the project is expected to become operational in the second quarter of 2013. The total investment for the project is around Rs 700 crore.
