NEWS| Koutons Retail to open 80 more outlets by March ’09; takes franchise route for expansion

Koutons Retail India (KRIL), a leading value apparel retailing chain, has plans to increase the number of its stores from 1,420 to about 1,500 by March 2009, according to a news report. The company, according to a top official, plans to keep 90 per cent of these new stores on franchised model and the remaining 10 per cent as company-owned showrooms.

Balwinder Singh Ahluwalia, president, Koutons Retail said, “As a part of our expansion plan, we plan to open 80 more stores by the end of FY ’09. Meanwhile, the company plans to keep 90 per cent these stores on franchised model and the remaining 10 per cent as company-owned showrooms.” The average space of the retail stores would extend from 900 to 3,000 sq ft.

Meanwhile, Koutons Retail’s profit after tax rose by 9 per cent to Rs 13.32 crore in the the third quarter of the current fiscal compared to the same period last year. It had reported a PAT of Rs 12.25 crore recorded during the third quarter of 2007-08, Koutons said in a statement.

The company announced net sales of Rs 228.95 crore during the third quarter of the current fiscal, a growth of 32 per cent over the net sales Rs 173.10 crore reported during the corresponding period of last fiscal.
