Spanish sports and lifestyle brand Kelme announced its entry into India
on Wednesday. The first Kelme store, stocking sports shoes and apparel,
opened in West Delhi today.
The brand has been brought here by Indian company Global Overseas
through a licensing arrangement. For Global Overseas this is the second
sporty brand it has brought in, having brought in Indonesian badminton
equipment brand Flypower earlier.
Kelme's footwear is priced between Rs 2,000 and Rs 5,000 and the apparel range starts at Rs 500 and goes up to Rs 2,000.
Mr Luca Gios, Director - International Business, Kelme, said the company
would be looking at roping in sports celebrities or fashion celebrities
to promote the brand here. Miss Spain 2011 Paula Guillo is Kelme's
brand ambassador and launched the products here.
To open more stores
Global Overseas' Ashish Seth said the company was looking at opening
eight more stores in cities such as Bangalore, Chennai, Chandigarh and
somewhere in the North-East. Mr Gios said the Spanish firm had set a
five-year plan of aggressively targeting the BRIC nations. It has
already entered Brazil, Russia and now India, and will be looking at
China. “For seven years we have been trying to enter China actually, but
like India it is almost a continent, and not a county, and finding the
right partner there has been a challenge,” he said.
